Poets House Celebrates 25 Years
Poets House is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2012. From our modest beginnings to serving millions each year, our impact on the poetry world has been significant. When Poets House began its programming there were few public events featuring conversation or dialogue about poetry. When this home for poetry was founded, there were few other independent literary centers devoted to poetry in the U.S.
In the past 25 years, Poets House has:
- brought world-renowned poets to new audiences
- created the Showcase, which provides a sense of the range and breadth of all the poetry published in the U.S. and builds a comprehensive library through friendship with poets and publishers nationwide.
- through Poetry in the Branches and its National Institute, reached hundreds of thousands of people by inspiring librarians to establish programs in their own communities.
The Next 25 Years
In the coming years, as Poets House furthers its reach through technology to provide more access to its books and resources, we will be able to offer the public an even more diverse range of poetry from different geographies, histories and perspectives.
