The Collection  :

Donations

With no acquisitions budget whatsoever, Poets House depends solely upon donation to build its collection. A complete set of services to publishers is designed to encourage their help in keeping the collection comprehensive and up-to-date. Contributions from readers and writers, however, still form the core of the collection. We accept both large and small donations gratefully, though space considerations require that we sell duplicate copies. Proceeds from all book sales are used to support the permanent collection.

Book Publishers

All publishers of poetry are encouraged to send two review copies to Poets House immediately upon publication. All new books and chapbooks are listed in the Directory of American Poetry Books. In addition, they are processed for inclusion in the Showcase exhibit both at Poets House and at the national convention of the American Library Association. Finally, they are incorporated into the permanent collection. All of these services are offered free of charge. We also welcome the donation of backlist material (individual copies only).

Literary Journal Publishers

In exchange for a gift subscription to Poets House, we offer exposure to the more than 10,000 visitors to Poets House each year. These are the readers you want to know about your journal: young readers exploring the journals they will read for years to come, new writers seeking their aesthetic homeland, committed writers from all over the country who visit Poets House when they come to New York.

If you would like to be added to the list of literary journals that can be found at Poets House, please contact Jane Preston, Managing Director by letter or e-mail to jane@poetshouse.org.

Individuals

Poets House is very grateful for all donations to the library. A bookplate identifies the donor of each volume and each donation is acknowledged by letter. Please note that we are unable to assess the value of any donation, nor are we able to arrange pick up or delivery. All donors agree that their donations are made freely and that they become the property of Poets House to add to the collection, store, sell or give away, as best suits the needs of the collection.

To arrange a donation, please contact Jane Preston, Managing Director by letter or e-mail to jane@poetshouse.org.
