Programs : Poems by Heart

The Poems By Heart Memory Circle offers an opportunity for people to gather and recite the poems they love. These loosely structured evenings include recitation and discussion. In an effort to establish the Memory Circle as a place where we celebrate other people's poems, the only requirement is that participants cannot recite their own work. In the words of Carol Conroy, the memorization of a poem invokes "all the myriad acts of attention that create a poem. For that reason, memorization ranks as a profound cognitive, psychic and spiritual journey."
