New York artists and poets from the 1950s onward developed a new type of synergy – spontaneous, casual, and involving popular forms such as comics and advertising layouts. This seminar includes an overview of such collaborations, including poet and curator Bill Berkson’s with painters George Schneeman, Philip Guston, and others, as well as a guided tour through the exhibition A Painter and His Poets: The Art of George Schneeman, which Berkson co-curated with Ron Padgett.

Part of Other Impulses: Poets Writing Across Genres

Join us to celebrate the closing of "A Painter and His Poets" and the publication of New York School Painters & Poets: Neon in Daylight (Rizzoli, 2014), directly following this program.
