2018: Epic Voices: Charles Olson’s The Maximus Poems with Steven Alvarez

Steven Alvarez
Poet and scholar Steven Alvarez examines Olson’s epic The Maximus Poems as a transnational poetic project that dismantles the walls of a U.S.-centered America, exploring the poet’s experiences in the Yucatán deciphering Mayan scripts and his awakening to the subordinated Amerindian epics of Mesoamerica. Introduction by Poets House Program Director Paolo Javier.
Presented as part of the Emerging Poets Fellowship public lecture series, with support from the Jerome Foundation.
