2019: Poetry & Science: Our Intimate Connections to Trees with Nalini Nadkarni & Forrest Gander
The second event in the Poetry & Science series, introduced and moderated by Field Work Poet-in-Residence Alison Hawthorne Deming, convenes vital voices in the fields of ecology and ecopoetics. The evening features canopy ecologist Nalini Nadkarni in discussion with Forrest Gander, winner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, whose background in geology informs his poetic practice. Gander also discusses his late wife C. D. Wright’s posthumously published Casting Deep Shade, which investigates the coevolution of humans and beech trees informed by ecology, folklore, and history. Introduction by Poets House Executive Director Lee Briccetti.
