Open House with Angela Jackson and Patricia Spears Jones

Tune in to hear Illinois Poet Laureate Angela Jackson in conversation with co-host Patricia Spears Jones. Influenced by the Chicago based Organization of Black American Culture (OBAC) movement, Jackson will read and discuss her own poetry as well as her Gwendolyn Brooks biography, A Surprised Queenhood in the New Black Sun.

Illinois Poet Laureate, novelist, and playwright Angela Jackson has received numerous honors for her poetry and fiction, including the 2022 Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, the Pushcart Prize, the American Book Award, the Shelley Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Illinois Arts Council. She is the author of More Than Meat and Raiment: Poems (2022); It Seems Like a Mighty Long Time (nominated for the Pulitzer Prize); and And All These Roads Be Luminous: Poems Selected and New (nominated for the National Book Award), among many others.
