Poem in Your Pocket Day

Poem in Your Pocket Day is a national initiative that aims to share the joy and community of poetry by inspiring people to read and carry a poem with them throughout the day. Traditionally, Poets House has shared printed cards, featuring children’s poems from our work with local schools, together with poems by well-known poets.

This year, we invite you to print your own Poem in Your Pocket Day card—and we offer you these selections from local school children, whose theme was paths (path-making, path finding, the paths we build toward each other) as well as selections from the Poetry Path in Battery Park City, a planned public art installation of poetry on banners, benches, railings, and flagstones along the Hudson River. The opening of the Poetry Path is postponed, but we offer you these poems as a preview of the path that is to come.

May these cards inspire you—and may they remind you to see the path you walk in a new light. We hope you have a happy Poem in Your Pocket Day!
