CANCELLED: Everyday Experimentation with Cyrée Jarelle Johnson: Six-Week Video Conference Workshop
Oct 13, 2020 | 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Due to personal obligations, Cyrée Jarelle Johnson’s workshop has been cancelled.
Six Tuesdays, October 13–November 24, 2020 (SKIP November 3)
A diverse spread of work calls itself experimental, but how does experimentation occur in poetry? We will consider poets, both popular and polemic, and their experiments with new ways of talking and being in poems. We will look at excerpts from ZONG!, critically consider the work of Goldsmith and Place, read from Tender Buttons, and try out our own experiments. The workshop will be part creation, part discussion. Students should expect to be workshopped, and to discuss challenging poetic works.
Cyree Jarelle Johnson is a poet and writer from Piscataway, NJ. He earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Columbia University. SLINGSHOT, his debut collection of poetry, was published by Nightboat Books, and won a 2020 Lambda Literary Award in Gay Poetry.
