Award-winning poet, author of the collection When My Brother Was an Aztec, and former professional basketball player Natalie Diaz discusses the relationship between breaking, creating, and love in the inspiration, construction and revision of poetry.
Natalie Diaz is a poet, activist, and educator. She is a faculty member at the Institute of American Indian Arts Low Rez MFA program and directs the Fort Mojave Language Recovery Program, where she works to revitalize and preserve the Mojave Language. She has been the recipient of fellowships from the Lannan Foundation and the Native Arts Foundation, and is completing her year as a Hodder Fellow at Princeton University. em>When My Brother Was an Aztec (2012) is her first collection of poetry.
Presented as part of the Emerging Poets Fellowship public lecture series, with support from the Jerome Foundation.
