Literary Partners Program: #POETSFORPUERTORICO

A Reading for Hurricane Relief

Nov 4, 2017 | 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

An evening of poetry to raise funds for Puerto Rican families recovering from the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and María.

Twenty-seven poets, among them Inaugural Poet Elizabeth Alexander, Pulitzer Prize winners Yusef Komunyakaa and Gregory Pardlo, and Pulitzer Prize finalist Martín Espada, are among the poets who will gather at Poets House for a one-night poetry fundraising extravaganza to raise money for relief efforts for Puerto Rican families.

East Harlem native and award-winning poet Willie Perdomo is organizing and hosting the #POETSFORPUERTORICO event.

“Poetry has always been one of the best forms of resistance,” said Perdomo. “On some nights, however, poetry might fail to serve. I’m hoping that, on November 4, poetry will raise enough awareness and funds to sustain underserved municipalities in Puerto Rico that are undergoing a strenuous and challenging recovery period.”

The cost of the event is $20.

Proceeds will go directly to the island-based community kitchen Comedores Sociales de Puerto Rico (www.cdpecpr.org)
