About the poets:
Ann Filemyr is the author of five books of poetry: The Healer’s Diary, On the Nature of Tides, Growing Paradise, The Vowels: a Congregation of Preachers, and
Susan Gardner is an internationally known Santa Fe poet, painter and photographer. Her books of poetry include To Inhabit the Felt World, the bilingual Spanish and English Box of Light / Caja de luz; and Stone Music: Art and Poetry of Susan Gardner. She also has published a memoir, Drawing the Line. She has lived and worked in Asia, Mexico and Europe as well as the United States and Canada, with numerous exhibitions in museums and galleries and extensive lectures and readings. She has been a house builder, scholarly researcher, teacher, and landscape designer. She delivered the Cam Memorial Lecture at the New York Public Library, where she was also honored to be granted a year in the Allen Room. She has presented programs at the Freer Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, the Library of Congress, and the Folger Library, among many others.
NEA Fellow Donald Levering was born in Kansas City and received his MFA from Bowling Green (Ohio) State University. He has worked a teacher on the Navajo reservation, groundskeeper, and human services administrator. Featured in the Academy of American Poets Forum, the Ad Astra Poetry Project, and the Duende Series, he won the Quest for Peace Prize in rhetoric. Among his recent honors are Finalist for the Janet B. McCabe Prize and the Jane Kenyon Award. His poems have appeared in The Alembic, Atlanta Review, Blue Rock Review, Bloomsbury Review, Columbia, Commonweal, Harpur Palate, Hiram Poetry Review, Hunger Mountain, Poet & Critic, Poet Lore, Quiddity, Southern Poetry Review, Water~Stone, and Yemassee. He has published 12 books of poetry, most recently The Water Leveling with Us and Algonquins Planted Salmon. A father of two children, he is married to the artist Jane Shoenfeld and lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where he is a species preservationalist (great white shark, leatherback turtles, queen conchs) and human rights activist.
