Six Thursdays, April 11–May 16
How do poets grapple with the idea of the self or multiple selves? In this age of digital fragmentation and fake news, notions of authenticity and identity are being challenged. In this class, we will write new poems and study works by Layli Long Soldier, Sarah Gambito, and sam sax that explore aspects of identity. Using writing prompts, memory work, and cross-disciplinary experiments, we will examine how our intersectional identities and those of writers before us interrogate our relationship to our private and public histories. New work and hybrid projects are encouraged.
