Poet and novelist Terese Svoboda use the life of poet, political activist and editor Lola Ridge as a lens to examine the modernist poetry of her time.

Terese Svoboda is a poet, novelist and writer of non-fiction. Her books of poetry include Weapons Grade (2009), Treason (2003) and Mere Mortals (1995). Her most recent novels are Bohemian Girl (2011) and Pirate Talk, or Mermalde (2010). She is also the author of the memoir, Black Glasses Like Clark Kent (2008), which won the Graywolf Nonfiction Prize. She is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Humanities grant in translation. She will be Distinguished Writer in Residence at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in the fall. She lives in New York.
