Poetic Disobedience

In both our waking and writing lives, there are moments when disruption—or even destruction—makes way for necessary light to slip through the cracks. When we reject convention, we often forge new, exciting possibilities for ourselves and our work.

In this six week workshop, we’ll explore a small handful of the endless ways disruption can generate multivalent meaning in our poems. By re-examining poetic conventions like line breaks, form, voice, “endings” and more, the poem will become a site for rebellion and innovation. In each class we’ll discuss a range of essays (including Alice Notley, Erica Hunt, Louise Gluck and more), generate new work, and workshop each other’s writing.
