Poetry and Science: A Reading, Conversation, and Workshop with Jane Hirshfield

Poet and essayist Jane Hirshfield begins this special event with a reading from her work that engage science and natural history, including poems from the newly published The Beauty. She will then talk with scientist and educator Sarah Seiter, Associate Curator of Natural History at the Oakland Museum of California, about the intersection of poetry and science, followed by an interactive session, led by Hirshfield, inviting participants to write poems about the natural world, using specimens from the Oakland Museum’s Natural History collections as inspiration, subject, or starting point.
