Poetry: Movement and Memory

with Max Blagg and Wickham Boyle

Jul 25, 2012 | 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Max Blagg, Poetry walks, memorization, Poetry NYC

“Neither closed in one landscape
nor in one season
the mind moving in illimitable
recollection.”

— Basil Bunting, “Chomei at Toyama”

Poet Max Blagg and writer and producer Wickham Boyle discuss memory’s role in the creation of a poem and the ways in which memorizing poems can give our daily life meaning. Following their discussion, the two will lead a walk during which each audience member will be given a poem to memorize.

Max Blagg was born in England and has lived in New York City since 1971. He is the author of four books of poetry including Pink Instrument, Licking the Fun Up, and Eat a Peach: Eat it Down to the Bone. His most recent book is the novel Ticket Out.

Wickham Boyle is a writer, theater producer (seven years at New York’s famous La MaMa), stockbroker, teacher, bike rider, lover of poetry and mom. Currently she heads a passion project working with women shea harvesters in Ghana called JUST SHEA.
