Summer Poetry Workshop for High School Students with Dave Johnson

This weeklong intensive writing program provides an exceptional opportunity for gifted young poets to develop their voice and hone their craft. Working with their peers, and with the guidance of a master teaching poet and guest poets, students will gain exposure to a range of poetic forms and various styles, and create and present original works. All participating students will receive lunch and transportation stipends for the duration of the program. Lead by poet and playwright Dave Johnson.
Dave Johnson is a celebrated teacher and writer. He has taught at Yale University, The New School, and Cooper Union, as well as at public libraries and Poets House. He is the author of Marble Shoot, and the editor of an anthology of poems, Movin’.
Workshop participants will be selected by an independent judge through an application process. All interested high school students are encouraged to apply.

Email or mail three poems accompanied by completed application form (download MS Word document here – a PDF version is below) to slunden@poetshouse.org. No names or addresses should appear on the poems themselves.

For a second year, we are offering a week-long workshop for writers in high school to create and explore poetry in one of the largest poetry libraries in the country. Led by Dave Johnson, young writers will delve into the art and craft of poetry in a fun, creative and inspiring environment. The workshop ends with a public reading at Poets House.
