The Art of it All: Finding the Line, the Music, the Stanza, the Rhyme

There is no Art without Craft. This will be a hands-on, interactive, bring-your-own-poems/bring-your-favorite-poets—and bring a scalpel to dissect what works in a poem—and why. The well-crafted image, the well-crafted line, listening closely to the sounds, shaping a stanza, and using the most precise vocabulary will make a poem memorable, maybe even profound. We’ll look into how to take a poem apart and reshape it. Where and how do you begin, and where and how do you end?

This will be a “know no shame” workshop, meaning, we will be kind to each other, but rigorous with critique in the pursuit of finding the best possible words in the best possible order to create the best possible effect. You have something astonishing in you —or you wouldn’t be writing poetry — and we will find it. Bring the poems of others that brought you to poetry, and bring your own. We’ll work and play together in the grand tradition of creation that the language of poetry has given us.

Six Sundays  |  Nov 26 – Jan 7 (skip Dec 24)  |  3-5:30pm ET  |  $360 ($320 for Members)

(Nov 26, Dec 3, 10, 17, skip Dec 24, 31, & Jan 7)
