The Page as (W)hole
In a generative and open session, we pose blank space as meaningful. What gaps do we mind, and what breaks do we honor? Where do we hold, wander, and skip on the page?
Our shared readings include space-turning poems by Douglas Kearney, Divya Victor, and Theresa Hak Kyung Cha and frameworks for revision from Monica Youn and Gwendolyn Brooks. In a series of open exercises, we first think in terms of visual, verbal, and archival gaps, write to fill constructions of physical and mental holes, and then revise by creating more perforations in the text. Writing into the empty page, as well as creating it as we redact, remake, and return, our hope is that words and their containers become new even to their writers.
Experience is not assumed or needed, though writers are welcome to bring in fragments to involve in the writing and revising processes. Click here to watch Cindy’s Hard Hat Reading!
3 hours on Saturday | September 16 | 12-3pm ET | $105 ($90 for Members)
