The Poetry Walk Across the Brooklyn Bridge
A Benefit for Poets House
Jun 9, 2014 | 6:00 pm
Join us for this beloved Poets House tradition that celebrates the poetry of New York City. We’ll parade from City Hall across the bridge, enjoying readings by Mark Doty, Thomas Lux, and Vijay Seshadri, among other renowned voices. This year, poet Naomi Shihab Nye will join us as we honor her with the Elizabeth Kray Award for dedicated service to poetry.
Poets House is also delighted to welcome Anita Norman, a Tennessee high school student and winner of the Poetry Out Loud National Recitation Contest–sponsored by the Poetry Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts–who will share her recitations.
Festive dinner at 26 Bridge Street in DUMBO to follow.
The Walk will go on!
The weather forecast is spotty, but it looks likely we’ll have a dry evening. Registered walkers are requested to check-in between 6:00-6:30pm at the small park south of the Municipal Building at 1 Centre Street in Manhattan. We will move forward with an abbreviated version of our Walk. We will exit the Bridge and head directly to dinner at 26 Bridge Street. We recommend you pack an umbrella or raincoat!
If you prefer to skip the Walk and would like to meet us at dinner, please arrive at 7:45pm at 26 Bridge Street.
Here are directions if you would like to go directly to the dinner venue:
By subway: Take the F line to York Street. Exiting the subway, walk downhill toward the water on Jay Street for 3 blocks, then turn right onto Plymouth Street. Walk one block on Plymouth Street, turn left onto Bridge Street.
Taxi: The cross streets are John Street and Plymouth Street. (Bridge Street is parallel with Jay Street, one block east.)
